Hi,
I'm thinking of building a hybrid gun, and I'd prefer it to be all metal, for saftey. However, I don't have much in the way of metalworking equipment or experience. Can someone tell me what sort of operations would be involved (ie, threading holes, welding, lathe opertation, etc)? Also, is there a commercially available quick-connecy union in metal that can be used between the barrel and chamber to hold the burst disc, or will I need to fabricate one myself?
Thanks,
Lukas

Hi all,
I've lowered my sights a little bit. I am trying to design a small, low-pressure hybrid gun, WalMart bag plastic for burst disk material. I want experiment with the number of layers of bag and see what sort of pressures and muzzle velocities I can get.
I will use a 1' peice of 1" Sch40 PVC for the chamber, 30" times 1/2" ID for the barrel, electronic ignition, and probably butane or alcohol for fuel. The 1/2" barrel makes a nice fit for marbles. I plan to add stock to attach the ignition and a hand-held bike pump to, and to support the barrel.
I discovered that the 1/2" pipe will fit into a coupler or other joint even with several layers of bag plastic in between, so I want to use that method to create "burst disks". I am still working on how to make a locking mechanism to restrain the barrel.

hi i am currently in the process of building a metal hybrid the chamber is 3" diameter and 1/4 wall i am going to weld a steel plate to the back. i have cut slots at the front to reduce the 3" to 2" and am still figuring out how the burst disc will work i`ll have to use a coil and spark plug as i have no way of geting a stun gun i`ll keep you posted tom

For your quick-connecy union you could us medal bango fitings. The fitings are $$$$$ however

Hey, I found something I like: threaded PVC union for 3/4" in-out. I adapted it to my 1" chamber on one end and the 1/2" barrel on the other, and using duck tape stuck to a single layer of 7mil clear landscaping plastic for a burst disk, I can hold maybe 40 psi (I don't have good gauge.)
I am now looking for some way to ignite it. I think I will use screws for the gap, but I don't have a voltage source.

an easy way to make the spark would be to have it jump to the side of the chamber so that you would only have to worry about insulating one wire

Oops, I forgot to mention that I have switched to PVC b/c of my lack of metalworking skills! So I got of my own stated topic, I guess.
