Ok, so I'm making a new gun with interchangeable barrels. Chamber length is 14" with 4" diameter (176 cubic inches/ 2880cc). For propane the C:B tends to be .6:1. For a sch 1.5 barrel it seems that the best length should be 147" which makes the whole gun 13.5 feet long... That seems to be kinda...long... Is this sounding right to you guys? The Golf Ball barrel is going to have to be 129" which makes the gun 12 feet... Umm yeah. The 2" looks like its gunna be 89" (total gun length: 8.7 feet) and the 2.5 will be 62" (total: 6.5 feet) Yeah... Can someone double check all this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the best C:B ratio for any combustion generally a 1.5:1 ratio? .6 sounds more like a ratio for a high powered pneumatic as opposed to a combustion. I don't use propane, yet, but I've found that a 1.5:1 works great with Right Guard. In other words, those figures do not sound right to me, I don't think I've seen a spud gun with those dimensions before.

Read all about Latke's experiments on C:B ratios for propane. His results are quite close to my design, but when I see pictures of actual guns, I don't see any barrels that long...

when somebody says best C:B ratio, it is .7:1 or something like that. when somebody says best B:C ratio, it is 1.5:1 or something like that.

Ok, I stand slightly corrected, I just did some research on SpudTech.com and found a nice little thread about C:B ratios and it states that 1.5:1 is good for aerosal combustions, but .8 is better for propane. Sorry, I didn't realized that propane powered and aerosal powered had different optimal C:B ratios. For the record, saladtosser, I didn't have B:C and C:B mixed up, see forums.spudtech.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9031

Yeah, well now that we have that cleared up,we can discuss what to do about these ridiculous barrel lengths...

I was looking at some tests Latke did with his L3 and the results are close to what I calculated. My chamber's volume and that of the L3 is very close. His results show best performance at some pretty high barrel lengths. But that's not very practical or portable. I need help deciding on what lengths I should use for a mixture of high performance and practicality. It would be nice to have some input from Boogieman seeing as the quadzilla seems to have a similar chamber volume.
