Hey everyone,
I was recently thinking of a way to make a mini combustion cannon more powerful, but without making the cannon bigger ( which eliminates the "mini" part) you can't really make it more powerful. So I got to thinking a little more and thought about making a mini hybrid cannon. This would give me the size and the power I want. I have never made a hybrid cannon so I'm not sure if this could be done. I was planning on using all steel for the cannon. I have steel pipes in my back yard that have threaded ends with caps so one of those was going to be the chamber. Then I would make a homemade reducer out of steel to connect the chamber to the barrel. I'm using the same pipe for the barrel as they use for a bb machine gun. I found some of that lying around too. Then weld it all together and put in a shradder valve and sparker and all that good stuff. Does this sound like it could work? Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
Nick

i think it could work but it would be very unwise to make it handheld

I've yet to see a steel hybrid on the internet, so you'll be in uncharted territory. It's certainly possible, but I don't know enough about metal-working to really say. I suspect you might run into trouble making a breach to hold the burst disk, but spark plug, fuel injection, schrader, pressure gauge, all those goodies can be added to a steel pipe using conventional methods.

I have never made a hybrid so I may ask some semi-rediculous questions but bare with me please. Don't you put the burst disks where the barrel and the chamber meet? Does anyone know where I can get plans or just general information in detail about hybrids, so I don't have to insult my own intelligence by asking simple questions? A web site or something of that sort giving any info would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone think its kinda odd that there are no steel hybrids? Wouldn't that be the safest meathod? Well, thanks again. Nick

Well, the spudfiles forum has some hybrids, and I think several of the builder's have homepages linked there. I think the reason no-one's done it is b/c (a) it's too hard for most folks, and (b) the saftey freaks that like to overbuild things would be to afraid to build a hybrid, they tend to stick to pneumatics.

Alright, well I'll sniff around and see if I can find some plans. Thanks for the help Lukas. Talk to you later.
