Any store that sells computer parts should sell you a brushless computer fan. They are usually around the $4-10 range, but you can get a free one from some guys old computer that hes throwing out. Go to www.burntlatke.com for installation instructions. NOTE: Make SURE that its a brushless fan. If its not then its going to spark and fire your cannon prematurely.

I bought 10 new 12-volt computer fans on Ebay for $3.99. It was one of those buy now only deals where they keep selling the same thing over and over again, so I think the deal is still on. Just type "Lot of 10 NEW 40mm X 40mm X 20mm 12V DC fans" into the search and you should find them. I don't know what I'll do with 9 extra fans, but it's still cheap.

Out of curiousity, is there any way that you can tell whether it's brushless or not?

Yes, it will usually be written on the little sticker on the front. It will either say "Ball Bearing" or "DC Brushless"

Mine says none of that, here's what's on my fan: ACC-9800 adaptec Model: RDM8025SL4 DC 12V ( then a weird solid line over 3 dashed ones) 0.25A (and then a bunch of weird symbols) Made in China
It's a clear fan that has 4 coils of wires visible in the back and there don't appear to be any ball bearings.

Odds are that if its found in a computer its brushless. Hook it up to a battery and look for sparks when its running. If you cant see any then you really dont have anything to worry about. If you're a real safety nut, you could go buy another fan.

Thanks, I actually bought it at Best Buy, but I'll hook it up to some power and look for sparks like you suggested.
