 coaxial piston valve hybrid
« Thread Started on Sept 12, 2005, 8:16am »

ok so this is how it would be set up: it would just be like a normal pneumatic piston cannon, air would be injected into the cannon from behind the piston, while propane would be injected from in front of the piston. it would be ignited from the front of the cannons chamber so it would work opposite of a typical piston valve (pressure would increase infront of the piston as opposed to decreasing behind the piston) and there you go, no burst disc. it would need to be tested at MUCH lower pressures than normal at first, just to make sure the valve will open. the piston would have to maintian its airtightness(...ish) under any pressure that the hybrid will dish out against it. then there is always the risk of propane leaking behind the piston and igniteing though.

maybe there could be a hole in the endcap and the piston would only be held in place with a spring, then the air could go in in front of the valve and there would be no hazard with propane leaking around the piston because you would make it completely airtight

anyway it could have a few things done with the idea to make it better but what do you think?

edit:crap it's been done before...THE WORLD IS AGAINST ME >:( o well ill make them live in greenland when i rule the world next tuesday

Well it sounded all right, though I still like my other idea which probably has been done. Do you have a link to that cannon?

Well,I just thought of the exact same idea a couple days ago, and then found it had already been worked with on spudtech forums. Look especially in the archives there. I only know of one or two guns of this sort to have been built, many people are skeptical of a valved hybrid, saying it won't be as powerful. Poohy! It'll be plenty powerful.
